Moonlighting

University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
Department of Ophthalmology
Policies and Procedures

Title: Moonlighting

Purpose: This policy addresses "moonlighting" by residents. Moonlighting is defined as professional activities that a resident would undertake as a physician that are outside the scope of their graduate medical education program.

Responsible Parties: Faculty and Residents of the UPSOM Department of Ophthalmology

Residency training is a full time endeavor. The demands of training are such that time spent away from direct patient care or family should be spent reading, practicing surgical skills in the surgical lab and working on the scholarly project. As such, moonlighting is not permitted under any circumstances. Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and/or including dismissal.
