Objectives: At the conclusion of this conference the resident/student should have an understanding of posterior segment trauma and should be able to

Describe the epidemiology, characteristics and management of posterior segment trauma including:

  • Blunt trauma
  • Lacerating and Penetrating Injuries
  • Perforating Injuries
  • Intraocular Foreign Bodies
  • Sympathetic Ophthalmia
  • Shaken Baby Syndrome/Nonaccidental Trauma

Reading Assignment: Please read the chapter covering Posterior Segment Manifestations of Trauma  in the Retina and Vitreous volume of the BCSC.
