The Guerrilla Eye Service of the UPMC Eye Center is dedicated to eliminating barriers to eye care for patients in the Western Pennsylvania area. The GES is staffed by students, residents and faculty who are dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care to the residents of our area who would otherwise go without.
Our mission on Tuesday September 7th will be to the Squirrel Hill Health Center. SHHC serves diverse community of patients including immigrants. We often need Spanish and Russian translators at SHHC.
Our mission on Friday, September 24th will be to Cornerstone Care in Greensboro, PA. Cornerstone Care serves a largely rural community of patients in an area that is known for coal mining and glassmaking. Our focus at Greensboro is detection of diabetic retinopathy. Our Greensboro mission will be followed the next day by a mission to neighboring Waynesburg. GES members who want to stay overnight will be fed and lodged courtesy of Southwest PA AHEC.

Birmingham Clinic serves a diverse community of adults and children including immigrants. We often need Spanish translators at Birmingham Clinic.

The GES will have a screening table at this year's Black Family Reunion at the Schenley Oval on Saturday August 7 and Sunday August 8. On August 7 we'll do screenings from 12 noon until 2 pm. On August 8 we'll do screenings from 1 pm to 3 pm. Glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy have a disproportionately high prevalence in the African American community.

Our mission on Friday June 18th will be to the Verland Residential Treatment Center in the Sewickley. Verland is a non-profit family of person-centered, community homes and services supporting over 200 individuals with intellectual disabilities, many of whom have multiple physical challenges.Directions to the Verland facility can be found at this link.
