Immune Mediated Disorders

Objectives: Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should have an understanding of immune mediated disorders of the cornea and sclera and should be able to:

  • Describe the immunologic features of the cornea and ocular surface
  • List and discuss the roles of the various soluble mediators of inflammation
  • List and describe the four types of hypersensitivity reactions that can effect the cornea and sclera
  • Describe patterns of immune mediated ocular disease of the conjunctiva, cornea and sclera
  • Describe the diagnostic approach to immune mediated ocular disorders
  • List and describe the epidemiology, causes, signs, symptoms and management of immune mediated disorders including:
  • Immune mediated diseases of the eyelid
    • Atopic disease
    • Ligneous conjunctivitis
    • Contact lens induce conjunctivitis
    • Stevens Johnson and TEN
    • Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid
    • Graft versus Host Disease
    • Thygeson keratitis
    • Interstitial keratitis
    • Reiter syndrome
    • Cogan syndrome
    • Staph hypersensitivity keratitis
    • Mooren Ulcer
    • Peripheral ulcerative keratitis
    • Scleritis and episcleritis
