Squirrel Hill Mission 1/19

Submitted by waxmane on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 11:47am

We were at Squirrel Hill Health Center last night. Due to a communications SNAFU we had more docs & students than patients. The patients we did see provided quite a bit to talk about. We saw three patients who's exams were suspicious for glaucoma based on optic nerve appearance. None of them had high eye pressures. This gave us the opportunity to discuss the sensitivity of IOP measurements in glaucoma screening. There are lots of papers out about this. I'm attaching a review about glaucoma screening and a relevant paper from the Baltimore Eye Survey.

Thanks to Dr Miller and Dr Wingard as well as to Allison, Akshar and Ian for their help seeing patients and teaching last night. Thanks as always go to Lori for handling all the admin details. Thumbs up to Sarah for organizing the UFS students who came out to help and learn.

Next mission is Monday at Birmingham. Don't forget to sign up on the website. See you then.
