Submitted by ruffj on Tue, 06/15/2010 - 11:04am
Hi Dr. Waxman, I signed up for the July GES events, but I am on Ob/Gyn in July and I don't know my schedule yet. If there is a conflict and I can't make it to SHHC or Birmingham, I'll let you know, but wanted to give you the heads up that I will try and make it if I'm off. Joy

The last GES Bootcamp session (make-up)

Submitted by ruffj on Mon, 04/05/2010 - 4:24pm
Hi Everyone! I thought our last GES Boot camp went great! I hope you did too. It was sure neat to see people's dilated eyes with the indirect and the slit lamp. I wanted to as people to post to assess the interest in making up this session we missed due to the snow. We talked some last night but not everyone was there. We were thinking about sometime after board study time? Some ideas I believe were April 24 or May 1. Please post your comments . . . 1) are you interested in a make up? 2) when were you thinking to make it most accessible for both MS1s and MS2s? Thanks! Joy

Squirrel Hill Mission 1/19

Submitted by waxmane on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 11:47am

We were at Squirrel Hill Health Center last night. Due to a communications SNAFU we had more docs & students than patients. The patients we did see provided quite a bit to talk about. We saw three patients who's exams were suspicious for glaucoma based on optic nerve appearance. None of them had high eye pressures. This gave us the opportunity to discuss the sensitivity of IOP measurements in glaucoma screening. There are lots of papers out about this. I'm attaching a review about glaucoma screening and a relevant paper from the Baltimore Eye Survey.

Thoughts on GES Boot Camp Session 1

Submitted by waxmane on Thu, 01/07/2010 - 2:46pm

We had our first GES Boot Camp session last night. I think it went really well. We had a incredible group of enthusiastic first and second year medical students as well as some of the students from our local Unite for Sight Chapters.

We spent an hour covering
